Dusty closed his office door before wedging himself behind his desk. He’d teach Blake to turn him down. He’d teach them all. The ungrateful shithead would learn that when Dusty offered to show someone a good time, rejection was punishable.

Dusty called his brother, Earl. “Hey, I might have one for you.”

Earl cackled, then coughed. “One of them beasties?”

Dusty didn’t think Blake was one of those furry creatures, but he shrugged. “Maybe. I think you need you to check him out. He’s my newest hire.”

Although, it had been Sebastian who hired Blake. Dusty didn’t like the fact that Sebastian had done that, but since he was terrified of the man, Dusty had kept his mouth shut.

Earl’s cough turned into a hack. Dusty waited, strumming his fingers on his desk. He really should get that cough looked at. It didn’t help that Earl smoked two packs a day. Dusty had told him countless times that he should quit, but Earl listened to no one.

“I got someone in the area. I’ll have her check it out.”

Dusty would have insisted that Earl come, but his brother was a lazy bastard. “Fine, but I don’t want my place busted up, got that?”

“Yeah, I’ll make sure.”

“And I want my pay if he pans out,” he reminded Earl. “And I don’t want this to lead back to me.”

Dusty might want Blake punished, but again, Sebastian Brac scared the life out of him. His men were lethal-looking, too. Besides, Dusty’s business thrived in this small town. Although he downright hated the smell of coffee, money was money.

“You’ll get your pay if he pans out.” Earl hung up, but not before going into another coughing fit.

Dusty tossed his cellphone onto his desk and grinned. If Blake didn’t want to play with him, maybe he’d liked to play with a Hunter.

And if Blake turned out not to be one of those beasties, well, Dusty could always hire someone else.
